Risk Assessment number 2.

When doing our photoshoot we will need to be aware of the risks involved when doing this. Risks involved when doing our photoshoot could include:
- If we have any wires on the floor that we are using we need to make sure that no one trips over them and inguries themselves.
- If weare taking photos outside we need to make sure we bring a umbrella to cover the equipment and ourselves from the rain.

We need to be aware of risks and do as much as we can to lower the risk of ourselves and others getting hurt by taking precautions.

Stereotypes.

What different groups of people do you have in your genre?
The genre that me and my group are following to create our music video is 'Pop' and involves young women singing, dancing around dressed quite provoctively. The genre involves the girls in the music video looking sexy and seductive, although in the genre it does not only involve using women by male characters can also be used to represent the 'Pop' genre. In this genre when using male characters to respresent the genre by having the male characters looking quite attractive, clean looking and stylish.

What are the common stereotypes?
The common stereotypes of girl bands are girls dressed very stylish and trendy clothing and wearing a lot of make up. In the media today we see a lot of news and stories about girl bands doing bad things or getting in trouble. Girl bands such as 'Girls Aloud' and 'The Saturdays' have been seen to be quite troublesome but are conventionally very good dancers. All the female and male artists in this convention seemed to be very well groomed, always being up to date on the fashion and wearing a lot of designer clothing.
However, in their photoshoots or in their music videos they can be airbrushed which gives a false perception of who they are and how they truely look.

Are they traditional or modern respresentations?
In the meida, it is a traditional representation in the media of females more so than males, because women were seen as 'House wifes'. This meant women having to stay at home, keep the house clean, cook and look after the husband as well as their house. However, over a long period of time the typical image of a women has changed, this is due to the moving of the times where women now dress showing a lot more flesh and look more provoctive rather than covered up.
The Pop era was that ultimately in the 90's where bands such as 'The Spice Girls' and 'Steps' were created and made a huge hit and the image of women began to change. This was a turning point for the media as women where seen from a different perspecitve.

Advertisement in a magazine photograph.

Here you see two images, the one on the left of the page is the orignal photograph, and the one on the right is our edited final photograph.
We decided on the idea of having a plain black background to make our outfits and the girls stand out and be the attraction of the adverisement. The advertisment is mainly the girl band posing in different outfits each pulling a different facial expression. We are planning on having large bold writing at the top and bottom of the page and adding a few more things to the image to make it stand out and eye catching.
The girls are promoting their new single 'Work' by wearing your typical work outfits simply by making them look more stylish and glam as they need to appeal to a large audience. The image they are trying to bring across is young, stylish, sexy yet feminine.
I think that this image works well because of the different contrasts in colours of the outfits and the black background really helps to make their outfits and the girls stand out.

Advertisement in a magazine.

As part of our ancilary task we have to create an advertisement to appear in a magazine advertising our new song/ product. The advertisement has to be appealing, catchy and include a clear message of the product we are tring to advertise.
As a group we came up with the idea of having each of the members of the band in a different costume to respresnt our song 'Work'. By having the girls dressed up in their work outfits to represent our song we thought would be a creative idea and would show to our audience that we are creative and unique to other existing girl bands. The costumes we have choosen are; A receptionist, a policewomen, lifeguard and a builder.
We wanted the outfits to be suitable yet still give that femine, sexy and stylish look to them.

Our Facebook Group.

By creating a group on a large social networking site such as facebook was a good way to get audience feedback and keep all our work together because it means that a wide variety of people are allowed to view, comment and like our work and give us feedback on improvements.
The facebook group has been a major help for us to get audience feedback, it enables us to get our audience involved and keep them up to date on our project.
Audience feedback is very important when producing a product because the product has to appeal and be aimed at them, so to have a website/ group where an audience can go and leave them thoughts wants helps them to express to us what we need to include in our product to satisfy their wants and needs.

Shooting Schedules.

As a group we have all decided to do photoshoots and shoot parts of the music video every week, preferbly on a Friday. We start taking pictures, creating designs and setting ourselves a plan on when we were going to finish our music video. Our shooting schedules for each week vary depending on if all of the members of our group as free.
Our next shoot for filming and photographs is; 'Friday 4th March 2011' during this time we are going to make sure our ancilary task is complete, most of the footage is done and focus mainly on editing our final footage to make sure we complete our practical on time and to the highest standard.

Understanding of Branding.

Branding delivers a message about a product easily and helps to create customer loyalty. This is important when creating our music video because we want to bring across a positive brand image to our audience in order to draw them into watching and liking our products that we create. By branding our girl band 'The Sunday's' effectively it will show our audience a positive image of our product and girl band drawing them into our work.
We created a logo called 'Rouge Records'. In order to show our logo throughout our project is to display the brand logo somewhere on either our posters, cd cover or photoshoots to advertise our logo. Our logo is associated with our band so when our audience see the logo they will instantly relate it to our band 'The Sundays'. This allows our band to become more known to a wider audience.

Costume Shoots.

The first image which displays one of our band members as a 'Builder' is for our ancilary task. We are planning on producing a photoshoot where each band member is dressed up as a different career to represent the title of our song 'Work'. The photos are going to be on a advertisement poster to attract our target audience.
The career's we have chosen to do are; policewomen, lifeguard, receptionist, builder and doctor/nurse.

The second image which includes one of our band memebrs in a simple black dress which has an added detail on it so the dress looks more appealing.
We chose to have each band member wearing black so we all matched eachother and looked more like a band because were matching. The outfits we chose are Sleak and sexy so it brings across the sexy and fashionable image we wanted to bring across to our audience.
We have decided to use the black outfits for our dance routine in our music video because it shows unity and makes us look more like a band because we are all wearing the same/ similar outfits.

The final image is the third outfit change we are going to do in our music video. We wanted each band member to wear a coloured outfit or dress because it stands out and is more appealing. By having a coloured outfit it shows a constrast to the black clothing we are wearing in parts of the music video and looks more interesting rather than using a bland colour throughout the whole music video.

Costume Plan.

Throughout our whole music video me and my group will be wearing a number of different outfits, some including black dresses to bring across a sexy yet sufisticated image, some colourful outfits to add a little color to our video and some neutral clothing for our photoshoots to make our makeup and hair stand out to the audience more.
We have three outfit changes throughout our whole music video. One of our outfits includes; a black dress, a coloured outfit for different scenes and a neutral outfit with bright lipstick when shooting the scene where we are shooting a male character.
Each outfit will show individuality to each member of the group, this gives each girl a indivdual taste and image to be known by, such as each member of the girls from 'The Saturdays' are known by colours because in their music video 'Up' each girl was wearing a different colors so viewers associate a color with a particular band member.

Allocation of Roles.

Everyone;
- performing in the music video as a band member
- film certain camera shots & movements
- editing part of the music video

Nicole Williams;
- created the facebook page to get audience feedback
- getting audience feedback

Daisy Flynn;
- Worked on anciliary and genre research

Izi Jordan-Mellersh;
- design for anciliary task

Stephanie Purvis;
- Created storyboard
This is our rough cut of editing and seeing how different shot types, movement and angles can work together in order to make our final piece look creative and appealing to our target audience.
We have also posted this onto our facebook page so we can get some audience feedback from it.

Audience.

Audience is a very important concept to consider when producing a music video or film because these are the people who are going to be watching your product so you need to make sure it is produced to attract them and suit their needs. Through creating a facebook page to get audience feedback and thoughts on, and research into existing media we began to see that our target audience for the genre 'Pop' would range from 13 years+, possibly anything up to 30 or 40 years old because pop is a genre that any age could listen to or be attracted to.
Our music video which follows a similar image to 'The Saturdays' is focused on attracting teenage girls, because the band of girls are seen as role models for a younger audience yet they still bring across a sufisticated image to appeal to an older audience to.
The band of girls in our music video come across as into fashion, they were make-up, have their hair done and young teenage girls want to have their image and style and possibly look up to girls like these, due to the style and image they reflect.

Audience feedback:
When an audience finishes watching our music video we want them to have a positive image of the girl band no matter what age group they are. We want them to come across as stylish and trendy to young and older males and females.
Through watching our music video we want the audience to be able to relate to the message we are trying to bring across and to have a positive image of the girl band and not think they are to provoctive or a bad image to be reflecting to teenagers. In order to make sure the image we bring across is a good positive image we are going to make sure that our video is suitable for all age groups and the girls of the band are just normal teenage girls wanting to be seen as role models to an audience. We want the audience to feel as though they could be the ones dancing in a music video and attracting attention from the opposite sex, and enable them to have our message ('Girl power') really stand out to them.
The aim of our music video is to attract a variety of viewers from all ages and we want them to feel as though they can get up and dance along to our music video. We want to feel that our dance rountine is accessable for everyone to dance along to and are able to learn, so they do not feel complex to copy, or if it was a younger audience watching we want them to feel as though they could use our dance rountine as a template to create their own.

Audience Engagement:
Audience engagement is very important when producing our music video, but in order for us to engage with them we must keep them drawn in and entertained by our choreography, outfits, mise en scene and image. To make sure we keep them drawn into watching we need to make sure that not all of our scenes use the same camera shots or seem long and continuous, we need to change camera angles and movements to create suspence and make the shots look more appealing by using a variety. By including a lot of visual light and different camera angles and movements it will make our music video more interesting to watch.
The music we are using for our music video is quite upbeat and catchy. This means that our music video and dance rountines need to follow a similar pattern with being catchy so it fits in with the song and follows the tempo.

Teacher Feedback.

Although we already had an idea of what image and genre music video me and my group were going to create and decided to follow a similar image to 'The Saturdays' we needed to get some teacher feedback on our ideas and see where improvements could be made.
The feedback we had included:
1) To look into a few more similar artists and their music videos, such as; The Spice Girls because in a their music videos they betray the message of 'Girl Power' and show how girls are equal to men. Me and my group wanted to bring across a similar message in our music video.
Other artists we found similar to the message and image we wanted to bring across which our teacher suggested we looked at in more detail in videos produced by Girls Aloud and The Sugarbabes.

2) Not focusing so much on location and resources and making sure we concentrated on;
- mise en scene
- editing
- Camera angles/movement/shot

Ancilary Plan.

This is the final design for our poster that is going to be featured as an advertisment in a magazine to promote 'The Sunday's' new album which is called 'Exculsive!'.
As a group we all agreed that we wanted the poster to bright colourful and represent the girl group well bringing across a positive message to our target audience. The Poster is very brightly colored with a sweet related theme because our band name is 'Sunday' and that is related to an ice cream sundae, just spelt differently changing the Y and E.
The theme is very effective and unique. By having picutres of ice cream sundaes, cupcakes, fruit and balloons it makes the poster look eye catching.
The idea of us each holding a different colored ice cream gives the girls a particulr colored that the audience can link them with, I.e one of the girls being known for always wearing or holding a item that is the same color.
By having a sweet realted theme and using a lot of bright colors on the poster it gives the band a cheeky, cheerful and bubbly image. This would particulary appeal to our target audience and give us differentiality from your typical Pop genre girl band.

Risk Assessment.

When shooting our music video there are going to be a number of risks involved in doing this. Firstly, when we are shooting our scene on the zebra crossing we are going to have to take extra care and keep a look out and make sure we check for cars driving down the road.
The weather would also be a risk for me and my group when filming as we would need to protect the equipment from water getting inside it and breaking them, but also we would need to protect ourselves. We would make sure it wouldn't get damaged by taking umbrella's with us to cover the equipment and ourselves from the rain. It could also become quite slippery if it rains so we would have to be careful that we don't slip over or ingure ourselves or drop the equipment.
The risk of tripping over parts of equipment in general would be another risk for me and group that we need to be aware of, this could include; the lights in the photography studio, loose or extra wires and leads we have with us.
If we are charging the camera whilst were filming we would need to make sure no body trips over the wire and make it obvious that the wire is there and people need to be careful when stepping near it, to make sure they don't trip and ingure themselves. To make the wire look obvious to others we would need to have someone stood there holding the wire.
Also me and my group filmed in a set of stairs outside. There would be a number of risks involved when filming outside including; we could trip up or down the stairs and because they are concrete stairs it could result in a serious injury. We need to be careful and have make sure we do all we can in order to prevent any damages or injuries.

Anciliary Research.

These images are from the campain 'Got Milk' that is widely shown in many magazines using celeberties to resprent the campaign.

They use many famous celeberties to advertise their milk by wearing a milk moustache that draws an audience into the product they are trying to advertise, and because they are using famous/ well known people it draws the audience into the advert.
I think by using celeberties it is very effective and altogether is a very successful campaign that has attracted a large audience because it is recognised by alot of people and you instantly see what product they are trying to advertise.
Me and my group thought this would be a good idea to consider when designing our advertisement for our new band 'Exculsive'. Instead of advertising the product 'Milk' like the campaign does we thought we would use a similar idea to advertise our song 'Work'. The idea we came up with was to have each girl dressed up in a work outfit such as a receptionist, builder, or policewomen to resprent everyday jobs yet still bring across the message of our new song. Therefore each career and outfit the girls are wearing would relate back to our song and the audience would become familar with the name of our new song.
Our idea is similar to the 'Got Milk' campaign and was inspired by this advertisement because they made their images relate back to their logo in a humurous way and this is the idea we wanted to advertise to draw in our target audience.

Existing Media.

This is a CD cover of 'The Saturday's' album that me and my group found appealing and wanted to focus our CD cover idea with a similar theme. Instead of holding our album cover name on magazines and having each girl holding one we came up with the creative idea to paint the letters on each girl's hand and have the album name shown that way. This image gave us some inspiration to come up with this idea and links us to the band we chose to use to base our song and some ideas on.
As a group we decided to challenge some of the typical conventions you see on this CD cover. Some of the typical conventions we are choosing to challenege are; our outifts may not be as colourful because we have decided to give the girls a edgy rock chick look to them rather than the typical feminine image you would usually see.
By going for a more edgy rock chick look for our girl band we thought it would make our music video and girl band more interesting and appealing. Although we've chose to bring across this type of image we are still going to follow some of the typical conventions by having the girls still looking happy, feminine and seductive. By rather than have them looking innocent and similar to the usual girl band's a audience would expect to see we've decided to take a different approach and challenge the conventions to 'Rock Chick' so the audience will be more drawn into our music video because this is not done often by many artists.

Genre.

The concept of Genre is important when looking into and producing media texts because it makes you look at the codes and conventions used in order to create the genre and the techniques used to make the genre effective. The concept of genre was very useful in helping me and my group to understand the codes and coventions our chosen genre follow so we could create our music video. We decided to challenge some of the typical conventions so it would make our music video more interesting.
Rick Altman disagrees with this concept as he thought that if you follow the typical conventions of a genre everything becomes predictive, viewers will know what to expect and viewers become passive voyeurs meaning that genres are therefore restrictive. Whereas, Andrew Goodwin had a theory which was 'music videos are simply an extention of the lyrics' this theory related to our project because the lyrics of a song tell a story and the video an artist produces is usually about what the story of the song is trying to tell. This is done by acting out the narrative of the story in the video.
Our music video fits in with other music videos as we stuck to using some of the typical conventions of a 'Pop' genre music video and still involves a lot of the elements you would typically see a girl band doing. For example; having a dance rountine in their music video.
This is the final design for our CD cover. After researching into existing media using resources such as the Internet we looked at existing CD covers to create a design for our front cover.
The idea is that each girl poses in a different way with our album name 'EXCULSIVE' painted on our hands, two letters per person in bold black paint. We chose to use the colour black for the paint for the title of the album would look obvious yet appealing to our target audience.
I think that this is a very effective idea because it shows creativity and keeps the CD cover looking effective and appealing.
